Training Modules
Volunteer’s should have the ability to:
Work in hot/sunny conditions, on uneven terrain. Sampling is conducted along shoreline areas in knee-deep water.
Walk short distances carrying equipment or samples.
Sign a medical release waiver.
BE STOKED on the ocean!

Kona Field Training: Monday, February 26

Module 1: Introduction to Hawaii Wai Ola and Sampling Parameters
Take a deep dive into the Hawaii Wai Ola quality assurance project to learn who we are, what we do, where we work, why we do what we do, and how.
Module 2: AT THE LAB
We work with regional labs across the island that support HWO in many ways. Learn about the spaces we operate in and the preparation of supplies before sampling day.
Module 3: IN THE FIELD
Safety is priority. Learn about HWO safety, sampling procedures, and other field considerations during sampling events.
Module 4: DATA SHEETS
Learn how to properly complete the field datasheet and chain of custody forms, recording parameters and notes appropriately and accurately.
Module 5: Field Measurements and Procedures
Learn how to properly use the testing equipment and which instrument is used for each parameter.
Module 6: POST COLLECTION PROCEDURE
Understand proper post collection procedures, sample submission protocol, along with troubleshooting guidance.
